What is Data Entry ?



Data entry means to input data into a computer, which includes a keyboard entry or scanning or voice recognition. A data entry operator is also required to verify, edit and sort data as it is entered.

Data entry in a broad sense includes a number of occupations such as typists, word processors, transcribers, electronic data processors, coders and clerks. 

Data entry operators are required to put data’s in the appropriate data fields of a database, by the help of keyboard, mouse or similar input device.

Data entry operation does not need very high skills, (except positions like Medical transcriptions, where training is required), and people can take up data entry jobs and perform them from home.

Most companies now outsource their data entry jobs instead of keeping regular employees. So you will find innumerable data entry jobs in the web. Though many companies only allow those who have been trained in-house to work offsite, data entry can often be done from home. But, work at home data entry jobs are often scams. 



Data entry in Microsoft Excel

As already stated, data entry is simply the entering of data into a computer. When talking about Microsoft Excel in this regard, it would be doing something like typing numbers or dates or text etc. into cells on the spreadsheet

The nature of Data Entry Job

Before contemplating on doing Data Entry Job you must know the basics and nature of the job.

Online data entry jobs usually consist of data entering into a computer, like creating reports, filling out forms, entering information into databases & creating typed MS word copies of original documents generally provided in .jpg or .pdf format.
